Revelation 21-22~ Day 120- It is done!

Even though John tried, the new heaven and the new earth are so incredible, they are hard to describe!!  His use of symbolism, to be honest, didn't give me a good visual picture to imagine, but it gave me some hard facts to rest on! The symbolism of the Holy City being a perfect square, obviously doesn't mean we will be living in a box for the rest of eternity, rather the focus is on the perfection!!  We, the bride, the Holy City, will be perfect !! The jewels symbolizing "purity" and "durability", according to my footnote, will last forever.  That means we will last forever !  "The old order of things has passed away" (21:4b).  That one is mind blowing to me!!  All we understand of our world now, for example in science (cause and effect, gravity, permeability), will pass away. Life will have a new order!  I giggle thinking about how Jesus appeared in the room with the disciples when the doors were locked (John 20:19-20).  Heaven is going to

Revelation 19-20~ Day 119

"After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:"Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God..." (19:1) John brings us back to that glorious scene again! "For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready." (19:7b) That's us!!  We are the bride (Eph. 5:32 & 2 Cor. 11:2), the true Israel (Romans 9:8), the New Jerusalem (Rev. 20:14). And, boy, is our groom handsome!! (19:11) Have you noticed that we get a view of that glorious celebration scene before each descriptive judgement? Ch. 4-5                      -Celebration            Ch. 6                              - Judgement Ch. 7                         - Celebration           Ch. 8-13                         - Judgement Ch. 14    -(first part)  - Celebration           Ch. 14 (second part) thru 18 (second part)- Judgement Ch. 19-20 (first part) - Celebration           Ch. 20 (middle part)       -Judgement I a

Revelation 17-18~ Day 118~Who is that lady?

John's metaphor of a woman/prostitute/city/Babylon is so strongly personified, I had a hard time keeping in mind what she actually is!   I had to reread parts in the reading today to keep it straight. From the reading  "she" is an evil world power "that made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries." (14:8). Many people think “she” symbolizes Rome, others have very good arguments that she is symbolic of Jerusalem before it was destroyed in 70 AD.  Those two views vary depending on when the interpreters think John wrote Revelation. But, just as prophesy does, it can have an immediate meaning and a future meaning, right?! So, I asked myself, what is something that is not a person, but a power that would dazzle with riches (18:17) and be against God's people (17:6) today? Well, I thought of something...John could be personifying greed!  Greed (personified) stores up wealth, wants influence and power over people and it does whatever it ta

Revelation 14-16 ~ Day 117~ Everyone is marked!

Everyone gets one!  Follower of Christ or follower of the Beast, everyone gets marked. If you are a follower of Christ, an angel, "having the seal of the living God" will put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of God." (7:3) What I read on Day 113, the 144,000 symbolize all of God's redeemed people.  That means you and me!  So, all redeemed people get a seal.  Well, isn't that familiar language?!! We read about God sealing his people in 2 Corinthians, "Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ.  He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his spirit in our hearts as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come." (1:22) Also, we read, "When you believe, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit." (Eph. 1:13) As, for everyone else, those who don't follow Christ, well, they receive a mark as well. Who knows if it is visible or not. Theirs, like our "invisible mark", is on t

Revelation 12-13~ Day 116~ More of the "backstory"

"He was hurled to the earth and his angels with him." (12:9) Doesn't it seems that there is a lot of hurling or falling out of heaven. 🤔 Remember, we just read about an angel falling from heaven with the key  to the  Abyss (9:1).   Or, maybe....we are reading different views of the same scene.  Maybe it's even the same scene Jesus refers to in Luke, "He replied, 'I saw Satan fall like lightening from heaven.  I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy, nothing will harm you.' " (Luke 10:18)  That even sounds like Jesus is promising protection just as we read today how God was giving protection to the lady, "The women fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1, 260 days." (Rev. 12:6) Humm... very interesting!!  🤓  Again, to me, it seems like the "backstory", building up to a glorious crescendo that we got a pe

Revelation 10-11~ Day 115~ I know the secret!! ☺️

I hate secrets!  Why would John take the time to write out how the mighty angel came down, held a little scroll, let out a loud roar and then....say he can't write anything?!  To torment us (people like me who hate secrets)? Yet, he goes on to write, "But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets." (10:7) Wait a minute!!   Doesn't that language sound super familiar??  Sure it does!  You and I have read about a revealed mystery, several times, reading through the New Testament. Paul spoke about the mystery to the Ephesians, "...the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to people in other generations as it had now been revealed by the Spirit of God's holy apostles and prophets.  This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Chris

Revelation 8-9~ Day 114~ Some stretching thoughts

I'm going to say some things today that might stretch the way you have typically read these passages (if you have read them before).  I came to these thoughts as I read about that key!! We already read that Christ holds the keys!  "Do not be afraid.  I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!  And I hold the keys to death and Hades." (1:18) But then, in our reading today, Christ gave one of those "keys", the "key to the shaft of the Abyss" to a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth." (9:1) The use of the key opened the Abyss to let out Abaddon the Destroyer and all the fallen angels in his kingship.   Later, we are going to read that another angel comes down from heaven again, with the same key to the Abyss!  This time to lock up Satan for awhile (20:1).  OK, so here is where I am going to stretch you.... That Abyss door was getting a lot of use, don't you think?!...o
