1 Timothy 5- Titus 1- Keep reading! It will prepare you!

There was a verse that stood out to me this week that caused me to reflect back on a conversation with a friend who was disappointed at the reputation of Christians as a whole "the church".  She felt that if the church worded things better, or had more tolerance of other people, we, as a whole would have a better standing in society.

First of all, when someone starts to say anything in the form of a blanket statement against the church, I bristle. Why would I bristle?  Because the Bible tells us that we, the church, are the body of Jesus! (Rom 12:4-5,1 Corinthians 12:12, 27, Eph. 5:30, Col. 1:18, 24, to name a few).

So, for one to say they don't like "the church", they are grouping every Christian around the globe, basically stating they don't like Jesus!  Right?  After all, we are like the body of Christ!  And here is something to think about, God loves his church like a husband loves his bride!  And like a husband, God will defend the honor of his bride.  Christ, being the head of the church (Eph. 5:23),  directs and manages his body through the Hold Spirit. So, for one to say he/she doesn't like the church, it is like saying they don't like how the Holy Spirit operates. Well, that is a very scary ground to tread on, in my opinion!! (makes me think of Mark 3:28-29 😬)

Anyway, all that to say, I recall my response to this friend during that conversation.  I got my response from our reading this week.  It doesn't matter how great we speak, we can be as sensitive as possible, and we still won't be liked! Did you catch the verse in 2 Timothy 3?  "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived."
I want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus!  I guess that means I will be persecuted along with everyone else who is part of the body of Christ.

I loved the words Paul gave to Timothy!  "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Tim 3:16). It's good to know I can equip myself to stand up during that persecution!

So, my take away this week, keep reading my Bible!  It will equip me on how to respond in a godly way when people want to persecute me for my beliefs. That's a promise from Paul! "Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this." (2 Tim 27)

I hope you are encouraged to keep reading as well!!
