Luke 11-12~Day 28~ God is the adversary!

Chapter 12 is titled “The Preparation for Judgment” in my Bible.  I didn’t notice the title at first. But after I saw the continuity of the chapter and the main point, I it was titled well. However, I would have titled it “Hurry and make the choice before you die!”  Ok, maybe my title sounds a bit more  urgent, but hey, you never know when you will die!

Did you notice the theme weaved through the whole chapter?

  • “Do not be afraid of those who can kill the body...Fear him (God) who....has authority to throw you into hell.” (12:4)
  • “But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded of you!”  (12:20)
  • “Be dresses ready for service.(12:35) “because The Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect him.” (12:40)
  • The master of that servant will come on a day when he doesn’t expect him...He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.”(12:46)

I particularly liked what my footnote says in regards to the last part of chapter 12.
“People are forced to make a choice. Either they are for Christ or against him. There is no middle ground. Those who do not understand this choice and its consequences have a lack of discernment concerning the times in which they live. Therefore,  Jesus’s followers must do everything they can to be reconciled with God, who is here described as their adversary (12:57-59), because anyone who does not take personal responsibility and repent will perish (13:1-5).

I had never read that those verses before thinking God is the adversary.  Boy, did that give a whole new understanding for me!

I have heard a couple of Christians say to me that they believe one may get a second chance, after their death, to repent and choose to have Jesus as their Lord of their life. After reading chapter 12,....I would say, “Nope” to that!  Jesus is saying “make every effort to settle with him “God” on the way” (your living years here on earth), ‘cause once you die, he’ll “drag you before the judge”! (12:58)😱
It doesn't sound like there will be one more chance.  So make the choice now!

It’s so hard to understand why so many people choose not to follow Jesus knowing that there is no second chances. It’s sad & scary especially the unbelievers I know :(
I agree!
Knowing it will be scary for them, I gotta get over my own little fears (in comparison) and say something to the unbelievers I know. It's my duty to give them a "heads up".
