Day 70~ 2 Timothy 1-4
Only 20 days to go in the 90 day plan!! Time is flying!
So, it is speculated that Paul’s first letter to Timothy was written while Paul was under house arrest in Rome. The letter we read today, 2 Timothy, was written 3-4 years latter when Paul has been arrested again, but this time is being held in chains (1:9) and possibly in a cold dungeon (4:13). 😧
Isn’t it interesting that, if this letter is 3 years later, Paul is giving one of the same warnings he gave before? “Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.” (2:16, compared to 1 Tim.6:20; I wouldn’t have caught that if I wasn’t reading straight through these letters.)
This letter is rich in instruction! Paul is aware that his life is coming to an end (4:6). When you think about him saying, “Follow my example..”(Phil 3:17) and then remember all the exhortations to stand firm:
1 Cor. 16:13
2 Cor. 1:24
2 Thess 2:15
Doesn’t 4:7 almost bring you to tears? I can just picture this closing scene on Paul’s life as if it were a movie. (If it were a movie, I would be bawling in the audience! 😭)
I find 4:7 very poetic, deeply moving and something I want to be able to say, as well, in the closing scene of my life!
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
