Day 65~ Colossians 3-Thess.1

“Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings.” Col. 4:14
We know who Luke is.  He wrote both the book of Luke and Acts.  But we know very little about Demas.  We know both he and Luke are Christians working and living with Paul as he is imprisoned in Rome.  It is calculated that Paul wrote to the Colossians in AD 60.

Well, here is a sad note.  Six to seven years later, when Paul is thought to have written his second letter to Timothy, he writes, “..for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica.” 😞
Six years is a long time to be traveling with Paul and live a Christian life! However it is apparent that he did not heed his teacher’s advise to “continue to live in him strengthened in the faith” that he had been taught (Col. 2:16).  He abandoned his faith for his love of what the world had to offer.  How utterly sad! 😩😢

It makes me think of 1 Cor. 15:2 when Paul writes, “By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you.  Otherwise, you have believed in vain.”

My hope is that Demas met up with someone in the church in Thessalonica and James 5:19-20 plays out for him.  “..if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back..” he will be saved!  If that didn’t happen…..Demas had over 7 years of belief that was now “in vain”. 😖

That is sad. Yes, I would hope Demas didn't totally leave the faith- unfortunately we all love the world at times and get pulled away- that's why Paul spent so much of his teachings to stay firm.
