Walking with the Way

I have always read the parable about the tenants killing the son of the owner as an allegory to the Jewish people killing Jesus, the son of God. (Mark 12). This time through, however, I was struck by the odd logic of those tenants Jesus was describing in his parable.  This was an angle to the parable that I never really thought much about before.  Why on earth would the tenants think that if they killed the son, they would get the inheritance?(12:7).
If I was listening to Jesus, first hand, I might have wanted to interrupt him to ask.  If you know me, you are probably nodding in agreement saying, "You might ask?  No, you would ask!"
Well, clearly, Jesus understands human behavior and our messed up logic we are capable of coming up with.  Could he also have been throwing that tid bit of info into the story to add another layer to the teaching moment?

As I pondered the odd logic of the tenants....I thought....aren't they just like all of us?  When we want to do something…

So, there is a verse that I think I have used in the past to justify or excuse myself from having to share the Good News with close family members.
Jesus himself said, “Only in his home town, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” (6:4)  There you go! Why bother with them? Let someone else do the work there. I’ll go to complete strangers!!

Well....in actuality, Jesus isn’t saying we aren’t to share the Good News with family members, he’s just saying, it’s not going to be easy.
This became clear to me, reading this time through, when I noticed that just one chapter prior to Jesus saying you won’t get “honor”, he tells the man he delivered from demons, “Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” (5:19)

What a good lesson, for me, on how to share my “testimony”. Sharing a testimony shouldn’t be scary, after all, it’s my story that no one can debate.

I was struck by the fact that Matthew pointed out Old Testament scripture to back up how Judas and the religious leaders fulfilled prophecy.
"So they (the chief priests) decided to use the money to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners....Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:  They took the thirty pieces of silver , the price set on him by the people of Israel, and they used them to buy the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me." (Matthew 27:9)
I actually took the time to read the context of the scripture that my footnote referred me to read in  Jeremiah, 32: 6-9.  To be honest, I didn't really see the connection. HOWEVER, my footnote also referred me to read Zechariah 11:12-13 and that was remarkable how it was foretelling of the event we read in Matthew!!

We have already completed our third week of reading!!  Time is going fast!!

Jesus said some interesting things in our reading!  What did you think when you read,
"But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line...." (17:27)
or when he said,
"It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire." (18:8)
or
"If you want to be perfect, go..." (19:21)
and
"Are you envious because I am generous?" (20:15)
and
"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." (21:22)?

Each day I pondered over these statements!!
I always like to reword things in my head as I ponder, so I hear Jesus say,

go to work and pay your taxes, but remember everything is from me and mine! go to the extreme, if necessary, to remain in the faithyou can't be perfect without me and I am willing to let everybody be perfect through me, just ask!!

I am finding it hard to pick one thing to comment on out of a whole weeks worth of reading! But, 12:31-32 left me pondering, so I thought I would share what my footnote said about it. I thought it was good.
Here’s what Jesus said, “And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the son of man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”
Doesn’t that get you to wonder? 🤔

Hello fellow readers!  I hope your first week of reading went well and you are in the process of  creating a habit of reading everyday.
So, we just kick it off and I noticed I made a mistake on the reading plan!!😝
I forgot to list chapter 4!!😫 So, instead of changing the whole plan, if you haven't done so already, just add one more chapter today so that we start this next week on chapter 10.

That being said.....what did you get out of the week of reading?  My day-planner is full of notes!!  There is so much to comment on when reading that many chapters!  I would love to hear something that stood out to you!!  If you share, please include the scripture verse you are referring to.

Speaking of chapter 4, the temptation of Jesus always seems to teach me a lesson.  In chapter 3, Jesus gets baptized, "to fulfill all righteousness" (3:15), then he goes out to the wilderness.  Isn't that so metaphorical to how it can be with us??!!  We can make a decision to follow Christ…

Are you up for some lighter reading than what we have done before on this blog? I am going to be reading the New Testament this school year, starting today!!  Even though I will be going at a slow pace, I will still be done with the whole New Testament by June!!   I will be reading ONE chapter a day!  How easy is that??  
This is what I will be doing and I would love to have you join me!!
