2 Corinthians 1-3~ Day 72~ Trust in God, not in yourself.

Just yesterday, my daughter asked me, "The Bible says God won't give you a trial harder than you can handle, right?"  I answered, "Nope, it doesn't say that!  It says, "He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear." (1 Corinthians 10:13)

She replied, "That's rough!"

I went on to explain, however, that when we come to the end of our rope, more than what we can handle, that's when we find ourselves giving our situation over to God, realizing that we can't do life on our own.  We need His help.

This conversation was fresh in my mind when I read Paul saying something very similar.  "We were completely overwhelmed  beyond our strength - so that we even despaired of life itself." (1:8)

See?!  There's the proof that God does give us more than we can bear.  It was the same for Paul and his companions then as it is for us today!  Paul went on to explain why God does this, "Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead." (1:9)

There you have it!  God wants us to trust in Him and not in ourselves.  He will put us in situations to remind us of this, since our human tendency is to turn to our own strength. The lesson for me is, just trust Jesus first!  Don't make it so God needs to remind me!!

I get it God!  I can do nothing with out you!  Don't let me forget it!
