Revelation 8-9~ Day 114~ Some stretching thoughts

I'm going to say some things today that might stretch the way you have typically read these passages (if you have read them before).  I came to these thoughts as I read about that key!!

We already read that Christ holds the keys!  "Do not be afraid.  I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!  And I hold the keys to death and Hades." (1:18)

But then, in our reading today, Christ gave one of those "keys", the "key to the shaft of the Abyss" to a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth." (9:1) The use of the key opened the Abyss to let out Abaddon the Destroyer and all the fallen angels in his kingship.   Later, we are going to read that another angel comes down from heaven again, with the same key to the Abyss!  This time to lock up Satan for awhile (20:1).  OK, so here is where I am going to stretch you....

That Abyss door was getting a lot of use, don't you think?!...or was it?  Could John's Revelation account be giving multiple descriptions to events happening at the same time?.....Why not?  God used that technique when He gave us 4 different accounts of the same gospel story.

So, with that in mind, here are a few things to ponder.
Could all this have happen at once?
  • Christ conquered death (Acts 2:24, Col. 15 & 2 Tim. 1:10)
  • Satan is locked (John 12:31) up, so to speak, in such a way that he us restrained from deceiving  on an international level (Rev. 20:3) yet, get this,
  • "The dragon (Satan) gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority." (Rev. 13:2) Is the beast Abaddon? Is he and all his fallen angels that we read about today, at work in the world today?
You might be saying, "Wait a minute, are you saying that these horrible things (trumpets), things that are destroying 1/3 of the world, are happening now?"  Well.....why not?  A lot of bad things are happen now around the globe....I'm just say'en....Also, remember the words of Christ in Matt. 24:6 & Luke 21:10.   There will be wars, famines, earthquakes and persecution throughout the age, but immediately after the distress of those days..."Then will appear the Sign of the Son of man in heaven." (Matt. 24:30)
Also, Paul tells Timothy, "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days (referring to all time after Christ's resurrection).  People will be lovers of themselves, boastful, proud (etc)..." (3:1-9) We are in terrible times now! our reading today part of the backstory to the glorious scene John described in our read 2 days ago?  Hmm?....Interesting thoughts don't  you think?!
