So, I have an extended family member who is mad at me. Not to bog you down with the details of a complicated story, just know, it’s not my fault (No, really!). My natural response to the situation is to say to myself, “Since I didn’t do anything wrong, that person needs to get over it! I should not be blamed for their problem!”
Well, it’s a good thing I am reading Matthew again! I’ve read the beatitudes before. I can easily glaze over this section thinking, “Yeah, yeah, heard this before…blah, blah, blah.”
HOWEVER, God’s Word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12) and when things are happening in one’s life, the words hit hard. That’s why I need to keep reading his Word over and over. Different things hit hard each time I read!
Today was no acceptation. This hit me, “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the alter and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the alter. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.”
I have a family member who has something against me! This verse says I need to be the one to go and reconcile. I’m not to wait for them to “get over it” and come to me to apologize.
.........Shoot, this wasn’t in my plans today at all!!….Arg…..OK, fine,….I’ll go over there today….After all, I can’t just be a “hearer of the word”, I need to be a doer of the word (James 1:22).
So,…can you pray for me today that the encounter goes well?
