2 Peter 2-3~Again, EVERY effort! ~ Day 105

Well, what do you know! Peter says it a third time! “Make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” (3:14)
I mentioned yesterday that he said “make every effort” two times.
He is really stressing the point that he wants people to self-evaluate. Are you at peace with God?

I like what one commentary said about these versus, “Belief should determine behavior.” This commentary goes on to say the false teachers of Peter’s time had severed the link between belief and behavior. Doesn’t that sound familiar in our culture today?
“Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the thruth into disrepute” (2:2)

Peter is saying the same thing that James says in his letter. “Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” (2:18)
So if your actions do not follow your declaration of faith, than you must evaluate your belief.

The commentary I read says this:

We see this same fatal error (belief not determining action) creeping into modern evangelicalism, where some would teach erroneously that one can pray a "prayer of salvation" to receive Jesus as Savior and subsequently NEVER demonstrate one iota of change in their life for the remainder of their life and still be assured that when they die they will wake up in the presence of Jesus. To be sure "Once saved, always saved" but one needs to be 100% certain that they were "Once saved"! And when there is a "disconnect" between what one says they believe and how they behave, they have cause to seriously doubt if they were genuinely once saved! Interesting thoughts, don’t ya  think? 🤔
