Day 168~ Jude and Rev 1~ watch out for the reef!

I used to think Jude, being such a short book, didn’t say a lot, but, it does!

Wasn’t it sad to read, “Although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith...”(1:3)
Augh! Here he thinks he has some people he can relate to in a common faith but instead he has to encourage them to keep the faith.
“Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved...(1:5).   These people, once fully understood God’s (Jesus’) judgement, but now...they seem to be forgetting the sever consequences of sinful behavior.
Jude goes right to the source of how their attitudes (memories)were changing.  They had people posing as Christians, in their church, that he describes as “hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear...” (1:12). These hidden reefs were “grumbles, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters showing favoritism to gain advantage.” (16).
Talking about how a little yeast can ruin the whole batch of dough! (Galatians 5:9)

Jude is a great example himself as to what he is telling his readers and us:
“Remember the predictions of the apostles...build yourself up in the faith, and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God,...And have mercy on those who doubt, save others  but snatching them of of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.”  (17-22)
