Day 117~ Rom. 13-14~ No provision

“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify it’s desites.” (13:14)
The ESV made this verse stand out to me today!   “Make no provision”.....

I’m used to reading, “Rather, cloth yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”  (NIV)

“Make no provisions” sounds stronger than “do not think about”.  That may just be how it hit me, though.

My foot note says the metaphor of putting on clothing implies not just imitating Christ’s character but also living in close personal fellowship with him. So, when I read, ‘make no provisions’......I think, don’t do anything that keeps you from being in close proximity to Jesus.

What does that mean practically for me? .....I need to practice what I preach to my kids!
“If Jesus was sitting right next to you, would you be comfortable with him watching you? Would you be comfortable with him reading over your shoulder? Would you be comfortable with him sitting next to you on the couch as you watch the show you are watching?”
Man! Even though those things gratify my flesh they keep me from being in close proximity to Jesus because I literally want to say to him, “Why don’t you go into he other room for I bit. I will meet you there later.”

Paul uses a good analogy when he says you “put on” Jesus. Like clothes, you gotta keep them on or else you will be naked, cold or get sun burned!
