Well, there isn’t a whole lot to comment about in this chapter, except I’m glad Paul appealed to Caesar!
Jesus told his followers to “settle matters between themselves before getting to the judge” (Matt. 5:25). 1 Peter 2:13, Hebrews 13:17 and Titus all talk about submitting to every human institution. Our goal would be respecting authority and praying for those leaders “so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all goodness and dignity.” (1 Tim 2:1-3).
However, Paul’s example shows us, we don’t have to “roll over” and just go along with what the authority suggests. We can “appeal”!!
I work in a Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC). All PRC’s in California were targeted by an unjust law. A law firm representing all PRC’s “appealed to Caesar”, so to speak. This law is now at the United States Supreme Court level waiting for it’s final decision. (We should hear the judges answers sometime in June.)
I am so thankful for Paul’s courage and example that we can still respect authority yet appeal when we feel we are not being treated with the same respect.
