Day 9-Matt. 25-27
This part of the story is always hard for me to read. I hate reading how Jesus was beaten….So, instead I turned my attention to the three last parables that Jesus had told prior to his arrest.
They all had to do with being ready for his return. The 5 virgins were ready; the other 5 were not (Ch25). Two of the servants were ready for their master’s return; one was not. And the last scenario, he tells of all the nations being gathered and separated to his right and left.
It seems clear that Jesus is prepping his listeners for his departure. He is giving last minute instructions. When he spoke to his followers, it was a lot more people than just the 12. There were ladies there that helped support the ministry with their own money and there were people like Joseph (the rich guy who put Jesus in his new tomb) who were also called disciples because they followed the teacher.
So, Jesus is talking to people who are following him and he is saying, “At that time (end times)the kingdom of heaven will be like….” …..people who “think” they are following him, but they really aren’t, will see their true selves.
Sadly, he is going to tell these people, “I tell you the truth, I don’t know you” (25:13), “Throw that worthless servant outside” (25:30), and “..those on the left he will say, ‘Depart from me’.”
It’s like Jesus is warning, “don’t get caught thinking you are following me when you really aren’t.”
Evaluate yourself. Paul says to do the same thing in 2 Cor. 13:5, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith”
This is very important if these were the last things he told his followers, don't ya think?…..Be ready!!!
